Screen Rant can exclusively present the trailer for the upcoming action thriller The Runner, which will be released in theaters on August 19 and through digital and On Demand August 23. The Saban Films production, which was directed by renowned acting coach Michelle Danner and written by Jason Chase Tyrrell, stars up-and-comer Edouard Philipponnat as a high school drug dealer with a lot on his plate.
Philipponnat (who recently turned heads in House of Gucci) plays Aiden, a student with a booming drug business who seemingly has it all. But he stands to lose everything from his cash and car to his girlfriend and his freedom once his mother turns him over to the police. Detective Wall (Cameron Douglas) makes Aiden an offer he can’t refuse: set up the dangerous dealer known as Local Legend (Eric Balfour, from The Offer and Six Feet Under) or be tried as an adult and go to prison.

Philipponnat, Douglas, and Balfour clearly make up the crux of the action-packed crime thriller aspect of The Runner, but the talented ensemble cast also includes characters important to Aiden’s personal life. Jessica Amlee, Kerri Medders (SEAL Team), Nadji Jeter (Spider-Man: Miles Morales), and Larissa Dias also star in the film – with director Michelle Danner herself making an appearance as well.
The Runner‘s poster can be seen below, further emphasizing the rock and hard place that Aiden finds himself caught between. Will he be able to take back his future and keep out of prison, or will a run in with with Local Legend be the end of him regardless? Audiences will find out when the film releases in August.
Saban Films had made a splash in 2022 with its hot selection of thrillers, mysteries and cerebral horror films. It kicked off the year with The Legend of La Llorona in January, and followed that up with psychological thriller Chariot, spy drama Agent Game, action thriller There Are No Saints, sci-fi horror film Cryo, and the politically dystopian Deep in The Forest. Another upcoming Saban release to look out for in American Carnage, which will be out on July 15.
